What is Cambridge Lower secondary?
Cambridge Lower Secondary develops skills and understanding in English, mathematics and science for the first three years of secondary education. It combines a world-class curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment.
Our curriculum frameworks for English also include an ‘English as a second language’ option.
GSS Jain Gurukul uses Cambridge ICT Starters for Lower Secondary to introduce learners to the key ICT applications they need to achieve computer literacy. It gives a flexible framework to develop ICT skills.
Check point for Lower Secondary
Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests have been designed to assess learners at the end of Cambridge Lower Secondary. They are available in English, English as a second language, mathematics, science and Cambridge Global Perspectives, and give valuable feedback on learners’ strengths and weaknesses before they progress to the next stage of education.
The tests in other subjects are marked in Cambridge and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint Global Perspectives is assessed by teachers and externally moderated by Cambridge International.
Cambridge holds two Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint test series each year, in May and October. The tests cover all major areas of learning in the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum frameworks for English, English as a second language, mathematics and science.

Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment. This broadens opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, particularly when their first language is not English. In many subjects there is a choice between core and extended curricula, making Cambridge IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities.
GSS Jain Gurukul follows Core curriculum of Cambridge which is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject and is targeted at students expected to achieve grades C to G.
Assessments in GSS Jain Gurukul are designed in the form of Formative and Summative assessments. Formative assessments are conducted in every alternative month of an academic year. It servesas check-ups for students learning,it can be a simple activities like writing assignment, drawing and labelling, a quiz, or a short discussions.
Summative assessments are all about the end results, and is conducted in two consecutivemonths, to test what students have learned? What did they retain? How much have they progressed? These tests are used to measure students’ overall grasp of the material and have a significant impact on their final grades.
